What is Vedic Meditation?
Vedic Meditation is a scientifically supported, systematic procedure which de-excites the mind and moves the body into deep and profound states of rest.
When the body is afforded the opportunity to rest in this manner, stress is unwound and released from the physiology.
A physiology unencumbered by excess stress chemistry leads to improved health, clarity of thought, adaptive and creative responses to challenges and demands, and freedom from old habitual stress-driven behaviours and reactions. Having spontaneously increased the production of bliss chemistry during meditation, we come out of meditation feeling happier and more joyful.
Regular, consistent practice depletes the bodies inventory of accumulated stress over time, causing the positive effects of Vedic Meditation to grow, strengthen, and stabilise.
These benefits are acquired by gently harnessing the normal, natural tendencies of the mind and body. We don’t concentrate or focus, we don’t use force or apply any effort whatsoever, we are not attempting to control the mind in any way. It is a simple and easy technique that absolutely anyone can learn. It requires no specific skill, nor the adoption of any particular lifestyle, faith, or belief system.
How is it practiced?
Twice a day, for 20 minutes each time, we sit comfortably with our back supported and our eyes closed, and we effortlessly think a mantra to ourselves from inside. The mantra is chosen specifically for each individual by a qualified initiator (teacher) of Vedic Meditation. In-person instruction and correct technique is taught via four 60-90 minute sessions delivered over four consecutive days.
